New tyre for winter season 2007 – 2008 in the segment of passenger tyres for vehicles of small and medium class. Directional tread pattern together with the most up-to-date technology used during the development and production guarantee excellent properties. Strong emphasis was laid on grip of the tread pattern. This tread pattern is more suitable for wet road and has a comparable grip on snow and ice.

The MP 52 NORDICCA BASIC tyre is designed for use with small and middle class passenger cars during winter season. MP 52 NORDICCA BASIC provides winter safety and comfort under any weather conditions. The tyre is designed for use in sc. Central European and Alpine winter conditions: in designing the tyre tread pattern, all elements have been implemented that promote perfect grip on snow. Standard tyre dimensions comprise 13', 14' and 15' in T (190 km/h) and H (210 km/h) classes.

The MP 52 tyre features a directional tread pattern that along with cutting edge technologies employed in the MP series development and manufacturing ensures perfect compliance with all the required tyre characteristics. Particular attention in designing the tyre has been paid to tread pattern grip characteristics under winter conditions; compared to its MP 55 / MP 56 predecessors, the tread pattern is designed more consequently with view to high level safety in winter conditions and on wet roads while featuring at least comparable grip on ice and snow to the MP 56 pattern.

The tread pattern symmetrical layout combined with latest generation 3D lamellas provides perfect grip and braking properties on ice and snow and outstanding performance on both wet and dry surfaces. The tread pattern complies with latest trends in winter tyre design, featuring additional elements for enhanced safety such TWI (Tread Wear Indicator) that informs the driver of current groove wear status.

As with all latest Matador tread patterns, MP 52 NORDICCA BASIC also incorporates innovative information elements on the tyre sidewall such as the tyre lifetime information and indication option of its designated place on the vehicle.

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012.

Three different areas are tested: rolling resistance, wet grip and the rolling noise the tyre makes on the road.

The following are not affected by the EU Tyre Label: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing tyres, tyres with additional devices to improve traction such as spiked tyres, T-type emergency tyres, special tyres for fitting to vehicles first registered before 1 October 1990, tyres with a maximum authorised speed of 80 km/h, tyres for rims with a nominal diameter of 254 mm or less or 635 mm or more.

With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decision-making aid.

Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safety-relevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc.

Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer. These tests usually focus on further safety-relevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.

Couldn't obtain MP56, so bought these instead. Not been fitted long, but seem fine, so far. Ral test when the snow comes, because MP56 were brilliant!
